This is to familiarise the dog with the environment before the other dogs arrive.
When you arrive, you will be required to pay the relevant fee for your dog(s) attendance, which is the regular day care fee. You do not need to bring anything other than a named collar and leash.
Most people ask if they can stay with their dog(s) on the first day, however we have found the best approach is simply to drop your dog off, say a cheery goodbye and leave as soon as possible for the following reasons:
• Your dog can be receiving mixed messages from you. Dogs are very intuitive and can tell if you are nervous or apprehensive so they will be less likely to leave your side and interact.
• Even though we humans have the best intentions sometimes we can interfere with dog’s interactions and body language. Best to leave it to the professionals.
The staff at Yappy Days are trained at reading dog body language and know all the dog’s unique personalities and know when to intervene and when not to.
We encourage all clients to ring on their dogs first day to discuss your dogs progress and behaviour. If we are concerned we will contact you, as we certainly do not want any unhappy dogs at day care!
We do not feed the dogs throughout the day, but rather recommend that you feed them after day care. If your dog is very young or has special dietary requirements you can bring along their own meal, which we will feed to your dog in a separate area. We encourage dogs to rest half an hour before and after their meal.
